Resurrection Chapel was established in 1992 by the Glenmary Home Missioners and was led by
Deacon and Mrs. Robert Laremore until Deacon Laremore's retirement in 2009.
We are fortunate to still have Deacon Laremore as part of our church and appreciate his work over the years for our church and community.
In July of that year Resurrection Catholic Chapel officially became part of the Diocese of Birmingham.
The first Catholic Church in what was yet to become the future Diocese of Birmingham was erected in Moulton in 1835 by Rev Peter Mauvernay.
It served the faith community of Irish settlers in and around Moulton until Fr. Mauvernay was recalled to Mobile to become president of Spring Hill College. He died three years later.
More than 150 years passed before a new Catholic Parish was established in the Moulton area of Lawrence County.
Current demographics of this rural North Alabama county show that approximately 50% of the county is un-churched with the other portion heavily Protestant/Evangelical.
The parishioners of Resurrection Chapel are determined, through the Grace of God, to set about evangelizing this rural county and bring fallen away Catholics back to the Sacraments and the Church along with new Converts seeking a deeper more complete faith experience.
Mass is at 5 p.m. each Sunday preceding with Adoration at 4 p.m. and Rosary and Confessions at 4:30 p.m. The parishioners are very grateful to the many visiting priests who offer Mass for them each Sunday.
The Old Morris Chapel Church at 4826 County Road 217, Hillsboro, AL. was established as Resurrection Chapel in 2012. The Most Reverend Robert J Baker, S.T.D., Bishop Of the Diocese of Birmingham Celebrated Mass at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday March 27, 2012 at Resurrection Catholic Chapel located near Moulton in Lawrence County. The Parishioners of Resurrection Chapel welcomed our Bishop along with Deacon Terry Rumore for lunch and to Bless the Newly Acquired Parish Hall located adjacent to the parish. The St Joseph Family Life Center was used for the Parish for Classrooms, Parish Hall, Kitchen and Dining, The Office & storage room for The St. Vincent dePaul Society and The Church Offices & Chapel. As the population of our community expanded we needed to acquire a new larger church which we achieved on November 13, 2022. This New facility greatly increases our space and is actually located back in Moulton as the first church was. |
We moved into the Old Church of God located at 16355 Court Street on November 12, 2022.
This Christian Church has been a part of Lawrence County history for many years.
This facility provides us with the needed capacity and additional space for our activities.
The original church had been added to over the years to accommodate the needs of the parish using it.
With those additions, an additional building was erected which we now use as our
St. Joseph Family Life Center.
This is a much needed facility as it is large enough for 100 people and contains a Complete Kitchen and many other options.
